GMS was thrilled to participate in the Facades+ Conference, held in New York City on April 13-14, where Senior Building Envelope Consultant Sara Gonzalez gave a presentation on 130 William Street. The façade of this unique 66-story building in Lower Manhattan is made of pre-cast panels with arched windows and loggias on the top floors. GMS was the façade consultant on the project, working with developer Lightstone Group, Adjaye Associates, and Hill West Architects.

Sara walked her audience through the process of the design, fabrication, and installation of the façade, including challenges faced over the course of the project. Sara delved into the process of creating and installing the handcrafted pre-cast panels. She also detailed issues during the design of the arched windows, relating to their curvature and size, and explained the GMS team’s design for the waterproofing at the loggias, the terraces on the north and south facades of the building.

As Sara demonstrated, our building envelope group’s innovative solutions helped produce a stunning result, which won the Architect’s Newspaper’s Design Award for “Best Façade” in 2019. We appreciated the opportunity to present at the conference, and we thank Sara for representing GMS!
