Senior Architect and Entry-Level Building Façade Positions

Projects include Building Envelope and Curtain Wall design for private and public agency projects, both new construction and renovation, including detailing all types of exterior building envelope components with an emphasis on inspections/initial evaluations, production drawings, and Energy Code Compliance. The candidate must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is a plus.

BIM Coordinator

Having basic to intermediate knowledge of 3D building modeling and 2D AutoCAD, the CAD/Revit, Coordinator will implement the firm’s design standards to create, develop and modify models and drawings, generate and compile construction documents, coordinate with internal and external team members, and provide technical support to ensure project deliverables and deadlines are met.

Responsibilities 

Prepare BIM models and CAD drawings from design concepts or mark-ups provided by engineering or project management staff. Work under the direction of the CAD manager, Engineers, and other team members as part of a coordinated design team to produce complex geometry, routine design layouts, detailed drawings, and other construction documents.

Required Skills and Experience 

Associate’s degree in Structural, or Architectural Technology, and 1-3 years (educational/professional) experience, or AAS in Computer Integrated Technology with 1+ years of experience with an engineering design firm.

  • Ability to read and interpret floor plans, cut sections and elevations and create schedules.
  • The position requires knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
  • Knowledge of Dynamo and Python is desirable, but not required.
  • Ability to create/customize Revit families.
  • Ability to integrate design elements with architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and other disciplines.
  • Verbal/written communication skills are a must.
  • The candidate must be able to multi-task between projects and be able to work well under pressure.
  • Some knowledge of graphic standards is required.

Accounting

Job Function

  • Performs routine work under general supervision, and other clerical duties as determined by supervisor.  Attention to detail, ability to prioritize and accuracy is extremely important.
  • Perform large quantities of data entry.
  • Prepare daily cash receipts deposits.
  • Review proposals and open project numbers and billing groups daily.
  • Review AP bills before entering into the accounting system.
  • Check vendor statements and call vendors for missing invoices/discrepancies and develop positive relationships with vendors.
  • Audit and assist with employee expenses.
  • Close projects as requested.
  • Backup other accounting functions as required during absences.
  • Respond to requests by sending professionally written emails.
  • Ability to prepare accurate, highly detailed work products.
  • Manage substantial amounts of electronic data.

Desired Skills and expertise

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in accounting, preferably with experience in a high volume, challenging environment with experience in engineering or architecture.
  • A bachelor’s or associate degree in accounting or business administration is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook necessary.
  • Working knowledge of Deltek Vision ERP software

Civil/Structural Engineering Intern

GMS is currently seeking civil/structural engineering students to intern with us in our New York City office.

Responsibilities: Perform preliminary code analysis and create drawings for clients. Learn how to interact with clients, designing, detailing, and conducting on-site review of work in progress. Learn building codes and perform engineering analysis/design in new and existing buildings. Be involved in and focus on the planning of the project from design development through contract document development, checking for code compliance, and working with consultants/contractors. Participate in exercises for field inspection regarding planning, organizing, directing, and problem-solving in an engineering environment. Be exposed to SAP 2000, SAFE, and Bentley RAM Finite Elements Analysis software, as well as Revit and AutoCAD. Energy Compliance Code analyses.

 

Requirements: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited University. Candidates must have completed sophomore year or higher of an ABET or NAAB accredited program.

Structural Engineer – Entry-level and Experienced

GMS is seeking talented entry level and experienced Structural Engineers; a master’s degree and the ability to obtain PE license are preferred. The candidate will work under the direction of GMS Partners and Project Managers on engineering design, structural analysis, and construction administration for new and existing buildings. Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and Nonlinear Analysis of Structures using SAP2000, ETABS, RAM Structural SAFE software, also AutoCAD, Revit, and parametric analysis software Grasshopper are a plus.

Structural Inspector

GMS is seeking structural inspectors to join our team.

Responsibilities: Inspection of structural steel, reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry, and structural stability.

Requirements: AWS CWI required. Engineering degree preferred. ASNT certification for UT and MT a plus. ICC and/or ACI certifications are preferred. PE preferred.

Facade / Building Envelope Architect / Engineer

Would you like to join an award-winning Building Envelope team? GMS is one of the leading building envelope consultancy companies in New York City. We assist architects with façade-related technical systems, helping them turn their designs into real physical construction elements. Our daily tasks include:

  • Reviewing drawings for design intent and constructability for all façade/envelope elements. 
  • Developing detailed façade drawings for architects during the Design Development and Construction phases. 
  • Preparing detailed reports about site conditions and construction progress for clients, architects, and contractors. 
  • Performing factory inspections of architectural precast, windows, and curtain walls at manufacturing facilities across North America, Europe, Asia, or wherever our projects may take us!
  • Helping owners and architects lower construction costs by creating more cost-effective ways to execute their designs. 

With the guidance of experienced employees, new employees will be asked to assist in the field and the office, helping to oversee construction projects from start to finish. Team members will:

  • Learn about all types of façades and envelope systems.
  • Prepare detailed drawings with the assistance of other team members.
  • Help to resolve issues in the field during construction.
  • Ensure contractors are executing the design intent and meeting local codes.
  • Create reports for the client to review and assess the performance of the contractor.

Candidates should have at least some of the following skills and traits:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
  • Self-starter
  • Organized
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam revu, Word, and PowerPoint

Administrative Assistant

Responsibilities include:

  • Renew PE licenses and keep track of Professional Development Hours
  • Renew memberships!
  • Book flights and hotels
  • Process Department of Building forms and drawings: hardcopies or through the DOB Now platform
  • Register for seminars and conferences.
  • Entering business cards into the master list for partners / associates
  • Submit reimbursements for various associations such as SEAoNY, NCSEA and AISC
  • Apply for Professional Engineer licenses when required!
  • From time to time handle personal items for the partners such as personal trips and purchases.

General

  • Update various spreadsheets of employees’ licenses (PE, Special Inspections, etc.)
  • Sign up engineers for OSHA, certifications, and seminars!
  • Ordering supplies: vests, goggles, hand warmers, etc.
  • Purchase books, magazines, or e-books
  • Purchasing food for meetings with clients
  • Keep track of current certificate of authorizations
  • Assist with formatting specs, drafting letters/emails!
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
  • Assist with some areas of Human Resources
  • Backup for Reception

Salary Range: 45,000 – 60,000
