The March issue of Structure Magazine features an article by GMS Principal Forensic Engineer Dan Eschenasy entitled “Underlying Causes of Exterior Sign Accidents.”
In his article, Eschenasy observes that most serious accidents involved signs and supporting parapets falling off one story “taxpayer” buildings, and advances possible explanations for such parapet and sign failures. The article contains information including a description of relevant building codes and sign related major wind incidents in New York City over the past 25 years. To read more on these topics and Eschenasy’s conclusions, take a look at the article linked here: https://www.structuremag.org/?p=23037
