GMS has been providing structural engineering services for the Paramount Hotel since 2006. Initially contracted for several smaller projects at the hotel, the Paramount Hotel engaged GMS in 2010 for a large multi-phase renovation involving the first-floor lobby and retail spaces, and the Diamond Horseshoe (DH) restaurant.
The Diamond Horseshoe, a formerly famous nightclub/grill that had been out of service since the 1950’s, underwent extensive repair and design work before it was reopened in January 2014. The repair work consisted of the review, repair, and reinforcement of the existing framed floors, modifications to update several egress stairs, and the review and reinforcement of two existing framed cellar levels to support new mechanical equipment. New design work included supports for theater/lighting/mechanical/acrobat loads, an isolated soundproof enclosure for the entire Diamond Horseshoe space, and new light gauge framed platforms for the stage and dining areas.
