The National Council of Structural Engineers Associations Structural Engineering Summit: Bright Ideas in the Big Apple is coming to New York City on October 14 – 17, 2025! The Summit is the annual conference for Structural Engineers from across the country and GMSers will present three panels.

  • Andrew Dolan, Jonathan Hernandez and Joseph Basel will present From Cubicles to Kitchen: NYC’s Residential Revolution to explain the rise in office to residential conversions in NYC, and describe their complexity, not just from the structural perspective, but from the architectural and developer’s perspective.
  • Jessica Mandrick will team with Chris Cerino to present SEI Session: Go Behind the Scenes of the Development of the ASCE/SEI Flood Provisions and explain why these newly released standards expanded the Flood Hazard Area to include land in the 500-year floodplain. The presenters will describe how the committees arrived at the language in the standard and what the challenges are for a national standard adoption as well as provide guidance for engineers who wish to advocate for early adoption of these provisions at their state or local level.
  • Vicki Arbitrio will introduce the screening of the SEAoNY produced film, Engineers at Ground Zero. This film highlights the critical role structural engineers played in the emergency response, recovery, and stabilization of Ground Zero—a testament to the technical expertise, leadership, and resilience that define our profession.

For over 30 years, the NCSEA Summit has provided sessions covering best design practices, new codes and standards, recent project case studies, advanced analysis techniques, management and business practices, diversity and inclusion, resilience, and sustainability.

NCSEA and SEAoNY, here in New York, bring structural engineers together to learn from each other and share their successes in keeping our communities safe and resilient.
