GMS provided structural engineering services for the design of a substrate for rotating art installations, installed on the south side of the Holland Tunnel signage gantry. The traffic on Varick St is southbound at this location and the artwork substrate matches the dimensions of the highway guide signs on the north side of the gantry. Our team served as the prime consultant for this project and coordinated the electrical and lighting scope. GMS also performed inspections for the project.
The pictured 200-sf installation, “We’re Freeing Ourselves” by Shawna X, is the first to be displayed on the Holland Tunnel signage gantry. The artwork substrate can support adhesive vinyl prints or panelized artwork via a perimeter lip and intermediate tapped holes for bolts.
