Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew

Brooklyn, NY

The project consisted of the restoration of the exterior of this Italian Romanesque Revival style church, designed by the Brooklyn architect John Welch and constructed between 1888 and 1891. The primary façade includes seven unique stone types; many of the brownstone elements required partial or full unit replacement and many delicate red brownstone elements were replaced with cast stone. GMS provided structural engineering for the stone anchorage and the review of the temporary shoring. The entire façade was sounded and cleaned; the restoration program took approximately five years.
