GMS provided structural engineering services in collaboration with Miller Consulting Engineers of Oregon for a 12 ft diameter, illuminated soccer ball suspended inside the Niketown, NYC store. The soccer ball was constructed using a cut-out aluminum framework which supported lines of LED lights. GMS created a 3-D Rhino model of this framework based on the soccer ball type and dimensions and imported it into structural analysis software to verify its capacity. The capacity of the connections between the various components and the existing framing were also verified.
