GMS provided structural engineering services for this new two-story house that includes an amenity space in the basement and living quarters on the main and upper levels. Features include a gallery, wine cellar, theater, gym, sauna, children’s playroom and art room, storage, laundry and MEP space, as well as a great room library, garage, and outdoor spa. The basement’s fully waterproofed walls and pressure slab are designed to withstand rises in the water table under flood conditions. The structural design utilized concrete for the fully conditioned basement, steel beams for the main level floor and timber members for most of the roof and lateral framing. Areas of the house use steel moment frames.
The project also involved renovating the existing pool house, designing a new recreational building with an accessible basement for MEP and storage, and providing an enclosure for the generator at the motor court, consisting of concrete slabs with retaining walls around the perimeter. Additionally, GMS provided structural services for the support of sculptures, both inside and outside the house.
