West Thames Street Bridge Competition

New York, NY

The concept for the West Thames Street Pedestrian Bridge is an I-shaped section (constructed of a 1” thick web plate and ½” thick flange plates), which spans the roadway and curves to the southwest. The selection and distribution of materials is balanced between their qualities for load carrying capacity and maintenance costs. The materials proposed are maintenance free – stainless steel, GFRP, laminated glass. The vertical web is perforated to reduce weight and to allow interaction between the two traffic paths.
