280 Park Avenue

New York, NY

GMS provided structural engineering and building envelope services for a complete restoration of the plaza, roof and façade and the redevelopment of the interior of this nearly full-block address consisting of two separate buildings connected by a “Link Building”.

The restoration includes new storefront, new curtain wall at the Link Building, new roofing for all three buildings, waterproofing of the plazas and structural work associated with extensive systems upgrades including elevators, escalators and window washing.  A Local Law 11 Report was provided prior to the beginning of the new construction.

The tower is located over the Metro North commuter rail tracks, and the supporting girders were found to be severely corroded, so GMS designed and coordinated the repairs. GMS provided Special Inspection services for Structural Stability.

GMS has also served as the structural engineer for tenant fit-out projects for Blue Mountain Capital, Franklin Templeton, Investcorp, Promontory Financial Group, Taconic Capital Advisors, Viking New York Bank of America and The Four Seasons Restaurant.

Owner: Vornado / SL Green
Architect: KPF for the redevelopment
