Pomona College Skyspace
Claremont, CA
A “Skyspace” and courtyard designed by the artist James Turrell for the Pomona College campus. The space features an open, floating, metal canopy that frames both the sky above and a shallow reflecting pool below, surrounded by concrete benches for contemplation. LED lighting elements hidden in the supporting steel frame bathe the underside of the canopy with light of varying color and intensity as the sky transitions from twilight to night.
