On Wednesday, the ATC reconnaissance team sub-groups were rearranged. Ramon and Jennifer’s group visited the Condesa neighborhood in the northern part of the city. Here the team assessed two buildings, one of which suffered some damage, and the other nearly none. Another group, including Laura Hernandez, focused on the southern area of Mexico City where they saw several structures with distinct damage

Soft story collapse of a four story residential building. The construction type was concrete flat plate supported on concrete columns. It is typical of construction in Mexico to use masonry infill. This was in the area of Portales Sur.

This building, also located in Portales Sur, was recently built and had opened its doors less than a year ago. Half of the building collapsed, completely ‘breaking off’ from the rest of the building.
